Vincenzo Capuano
Pizzaiolo
Vincenzo Capuano, born in Naples in 1989, is known for his bushy beard, bright eyes and “scugnizzo” (street urchin) smile. He is also an award-winning master pizza maker, and a world ambassador for Neapolitan pizza. Pizza has changed his life in a fairy-tale way, taking him from Scampia in the northern suburbs of Naples to many parts of the world (the USA, France, Spain, Japan, Iceland and Africa).
Vincenzo Capuano, known as Capvin, comes from three generations of pizza chefs. He learnt the so-called arte bianca (white art) from his grandfather Vincenzo, and refined his techniques with help from his father Luigi. In this way, he soon became an expert in the patient craft of leavening and mixing dough, achieving a perfect balance between creativity, passion and tradition in his Neapolitan pizza.
Capuano has opened several pizzerias both in Italy and abroad. He took part in Milan Expo 2015, preparing more than 180,000 pizzas, and also participated in the Guinness World Record event, breaking the record for the world’s longest pizza and appearing on TV programmes on CNN, CNBC, RAI Uno, Mediaset, TV2000, RTL, and ProSieben’s Galileo.
He has won more than 40 trophies over the years, firstly being named best master pizza maker of the year in the S.T.G. division of the Caputo Cup, and later winning two awards at the International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas. He won the “Il Magnifico” award for extra virgin olive oil chef in 2017, giving him the opportunity to publish his first cookbook.
He has appeared in many newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Bild, Le Figaro, Panorama, La Repubblica and Il Mattino. He has entered into many agreements and partnerships over the years, such as those with Eataly World and Rossopomodoro, and pursued many projects and dreams, with the aim of spreading knowledge of his territory and his art around the world.
